Jürgen Ebler (trumpet)
The melody line is in the safest of hands with Jürgen, a native of Freiburg. He cut his Jazz teeth in the Dixieland idiom, and is still in great demand amongst local bands, but "crossed the bridge" to the New Orleans style a few years ago, and his vast memory for tunes is a truly great asset to the band.
Roy Duncombe (clarinet/tenor sax)
Roy learned clarinet whilst growing up in London. His playing is heavily influenced by such as Edmond Hall, Emanuel Paul, and George Lewis. Roy performed with several significant British New Orleans bands. He currently lives in Bavaria, where he leads his own band as well as working with several others.
Thomas Kaltenbach (trombone)
Thomas hails from Lörrach and joined the "NOX" in 2004. He formed his first Jazz band in 1981, and was a prize winner at the 1989 National Youth Music Championships. Thomas is a member of several Jazz bands, where he specialises in the style of New Orleans legend Jim Robinson. But he is equally at home in the Classical world, and undertakes much orchestral work etc.
Simon Holliday (piano, vocals)
Born in England of Irish descent, Simon has lived in Freiburg since 1989. He is a truly outstanding pianist and vocalist, at home in styles ranging from Ragtime to Rock & Roll. In addition to running his own bands, Simon plays throughout Europe, appearing with major performers in various styles, and is in regular demand as a recording artist and guest musician.
Eric Cousin (banjo, guitar)
Able to play most stringed instruments, Eric is a well-known figure on the bluegrass scene in his native France. He joined the band in 2001, and his Tenor Banjo playing has added greatly to the rhythm section. He is rapidly developing into a latter-day Lawrence Marrero - a real compliment amongst the New Orleans Jazz fraternity!
Chris Haskins (bass, vocals)
The heartbeat of the rhythm section, Chris is a self-taught Jazz bassist and guitarist from Bath in the English West Country. He has toured extensively with leading British Traditional Jazz bands, and made the move to Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1982. In addition to a busy Jazz career, Chris works with Rock and Irish Folk bands, and like Simon, is a prolific recording artist.
Ulrich Winterhager (drums)
Born in Münchenbernsdorf (Thuringia) but a resident of Freiburg for the last 40 years, Uli has been with the band from the start. He has been on the Jazz scene for more than 25 years, long ago specialising in the New Orleans styles of Sammy Penn, Joe Watkins, Baby Dodds etc. Uli is one of the very few drummers with a genuine feel for the genre, playing with discipline and great feeling - not to mention a natural ability to swing!
